Context and Structure of Alternative Rock
Alternative rock is not well defined; it could be defined as music that does not follow the style of mainstream music and is outside of social norms within its genre.
The structure of the song frequently follows a variation of verse, chorus, verse, and bridge composed of elements that may vary accordingly, which has been widely used over a period of... a decade per se... yes, we use it now as well.
An atypical structure is the best way to describe alternative music because it literally does the opposite of what is in front of you; this structure follows a chronological sequence of ideas and melody changing over a few seconds, which appears to struggle in the world of mainstream music.
As a songwriter, I can say that repetitive music is easier to remember because it allows the idea to set in the person's head and emotionally connect with the song, as opposed to music with potentially innovative ideas.
If we look deeper into the music videos of Radiohead, for example, we can see that they are one of the most influential bands since the Beatles, with influences ranging from pop and rock to jazz and experimental electronic ideas.
Radiohead had managed to overwhelm fans with new ideas with each new release. Rather than taking a chronological approach to music, Osborn divides it into four sections that allow for the breakdown of specific parameters. Form, rhythm, timbre, and harmony are the most important aspects. You may be aware that the "pyramid song" appears to be one of their favourite complex pieces. The concept of "terminally climatic form" was highlighted by Osborn (the contrast between the chorus and the ending of the song)
Cold play frequently employs heavily sound-designed instrumental sections, particularly in "coloratura," which takes up about two minutes of intermission and consists of distinct movements and recurring motives alongside a familiar sounding verse we've all heard. Despite this, the vocals are a nice touch that adds some sparkle to the mix.
