CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT
By Myiesha
Maroosh and I sat down after school to work on our concept. Maroosh wanted to work on a narrative-style music video, and I wanted to work on something more artistic or abstract. As we went deeper, we could have said that we already had a specific concept in mind, and we wanted our music video to be relatable to others in order to further engage the audience.
being stated We figured the answer was right in front of us after countless hours of mindlessly searching for ideas and songs. From discussing which universities we wanted to attend to determining if we had what it took to leave our home and attempting to portray our potential feelings such as homesickness in the near future...
All I know is that Maroosh wanted something sentimental and I simply wanted a crying scene in our video, which made sense in this case and also meant that we were willing to travel in order to film what we wanted to show.
We decided to add animations to showcase an attempted emotional exaggeration to empathise with our audience because I wanted to go for a more artistic look, where Maroosh would always question if "we could actually pull it off."

Given that we didn't have much time, we decided to combine the worlds of reality and animation. Having rarely seen animations in the countless music videos we watched in class, we wanted to be among the first.
As for our song selection, we were looking for something slow and soft at first, but we failed miserably because I prefer to listen to upbeat songs with sad lyrics that no one really notices... was this perfect?

Any rock genre would include a performance and narrative-styled video, but because we wanted to focus more on the story, we looked towards contemporary aspects such as a penguin symbolising hope or the animation being in black and white to showcase the simplicity within a deeper feeling/meaning as an alternative to lipsyncing.
