Analysis of selected footage
by Myiesha
As we are all new to a foreign land. To justify the character's departure to another country to study, we chose tracking shots within the airport and respective shots within the aeroplane. Daytime shots of the flight can depict the character's excitement at a new beginning and her eagerness to explore. We don't see the main character's face as she moves forward and accepts the journey ahead of her, which can leave those who haven't seen our music video for the first time wondering where she's going.

Footage in school was also shot to show how time passes and how the main character adapts to her new surroundings, i.e. her schooling. By adding transitions, we can see how the character eventually becomes overworked by what she is doing. This is demonstrated through low-key lighting and a colour shift from warm to blue tones to depict the character's mood shift as she continues to grow apart from her family under the ideology that she has the potential to succeed.

A clip from the animation I created depicts aspects of the main character's mind as she begins to feel homesick and potentially drifts away from her roots, which are her family/sister. This has been depicted in a simple art style, such as line art on a black background, to emphasise the emptiness, as the only thing she is thinking about 24 hours a day is how she is separated from her sister. To emphasise its oblique symbolism, we decided to create a bridge between reality and animation in which the main characters are depicted in doodle art with black and white makeup. The close-up of her hands slipping away from each other only shows how she begins to feel emotional dependency or the onset of her mental illness.

The following clip emphasises the main character's day-to-day activities without her sister's presence beside her. As time passes, we see the main character becoming stronger enough to carry on, even though she may be wearing a mask to conceal her true feelings.

We made the character run as if she sees her sister from a distance without her sister actually being there to demonstrate her condition worsening. To make it cooler... cough... we chose multiple shots from various camera angles such as close up, POV shots, and mid shots to really capture our audience's attention.

We wanted the main character to enter the world of animation one last time as soon as she was close enough to her sister, by that I mean doing something unique, something that we don't usually find in music videos, yes, it's the voice over, I think I might be obsessed? maybe...
Again, the sister appears in her mind as a symbol of motivation or hope to continue on with her journey, telling her big sister she can indeed make it, is an indication we wanted to put in that even during difficult times, there is someone who will lift us up.
The following clips were chosen at random to show a series of nostalgic memories or "FLASHBACKS" in a sense, after which she is shown having a breakdown from those memories and tries to lift herself up regardless of the guilt she may have felt upon leaving. We wanted a happy ending at the end, after months of exposing her depressive episodes, so we decided the main character would finally return home after finally "making it," which would then fade to black, beginning a new chapter in her story.
